Smoke-Free Baguio Task Force apprehended 8 establishments for violations of the Smoke-Free Baguio Ordinance during the night inspection at Camdas Subdivision, Dizon Subdivision, Bokawkan Road, Magsaysay Road, Slaughterhouse, and at Triage Area Convention Center on June 18, 2021.
“Despite the establishments’ awareness on the ordinance, the activity showed that many are still violating it,” says Smoke-Free Baguio Project Leader Cecille Agpawa.
She suggested that regular night inspection should be conducted in the future to further strengthen the compliance of establishments and of the public.
The Smoke-Free Baguio Ordinance strictly prohibits the following: selling without cigarette permit, selling per stick, selling within 100 meters of absolute ban areas, selling to minors, smoking in public places and establishments allowing smoking in unauthorized designated smoking areas.
Individual violators can be fined from Php 1,000 to Php 3,000 and imprisonment for a period of not exceeding to three (3) months while establishment violators can be fined from Php 2,000 to Php 5,000 and suspension/revocation of business permit if applicable.
The joint night inspection was conducted by the members of Smoke-Free Community Task Force, Sanitation Division-HSO, Smoke-Free Baguio Office-HSO and POSD enforcers.
